REVIEW

Belly Jam
I really enjoyed this video. It has a lot of combinations that are easy for beginners to follow, but also fun for intermediate dancers. The instruction is narrated by BellyQueen as they alternate performing the combinations. The end of the video allows you to combine all the movements and take the choreography to a dance club. I've taught the combinations in this video to my students and they just love it! This DVD also comes with a music CD. I like the music because it falls in the Electronica/Belly Dance Fusion genera.
Bellydance Superstars
I love this video, even if some reviewers believe it has been "commercialized". I like the fact that you get to see two performances from each of the dancers. I wish I could have seen some group choreographies like they did on tour, see the Desert Roses perform, or interviews with the Stars!
Bellydance Divas
I thought this video was okay. The music was in-house, so I wasn't very fond of it. The dancers didn't seem very responsive either, though their dancing was great, there wasn't much stage presence, probably because performing for a camera just isn't the same as performing for an audience. I liked that the video helps teach the novice the difference between Persian and Egyptian, Turkish and so forth. It also has sword balancing and Isis wings. If you have all of Rania's videos, her performances at the end of those videos are all on this one. It is still a great video to have in your collection, as it will also help improve your stage performance.
Suhaila Dance Company 2002
I loved this video because I saw this performance LIVE at Rakkasah. It was my first trip to Rakkasah, as well as my first Suhaila experience. Her entire show blew my doors off! My hats off to the Queen of Dance!
Balanat
This is a great video to have in your collection. A wonderful revival of Jamila's original Balanat. Many different types of folkloric dances, most of which are not seen in our typical belly dance communities.
Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Veil
It's been a while since I have watched this video, but I appreciated all the different ways to maneuver a veil. Aneena shows how to maneuver the double veil with single veil movements. Some of the moves are complicated, and I wish I could see some of this moves performed fluidly in a dance. This video is packed with a lot of more advanced moves, and at the end, Aneena performs a double veil choreography applying some moves she teaches in the video.
The Art of Belly Dancing
My very first video before I had any instruction from a live teacher! I liked it then and I still like it now. Though Joynan shows more than just veil, the veil part was my favorite. She inspired me to begin double veil. Her movements are transitions are very fluid and inspiring. After she teaches different movements, she performs examples, and her double veil piece is excellent. You probably see a lot of moves that I do, I learned from Joynan!
Belly Dance Television
I really enjoyed this first installment of BDTV! A very upclose view of the belly dance community (mostly in California). Interviews, costume tips, and a performance from upcoming stars Urban Tribal Dance Company. Become a member of this exclusive DVD "newsletter"! This is a must have!
Tribal Fusion Belly Dance
After going through Rachel Brice's all day workshop at Domba Studio, this DVD is an awesome supplement, especially for those (like myself) who have no Yoga experience. It has totally inspired me to practice more often, especially to gain more flexibility. I truly believe Yoga and Pilates should be used in conjunction with Belly Dance, especially to help strengthen your posture.
Behind the Veil
By far, one of my favorite videos. I received my own mini Isis wings from Amira Mor, and watching her performances with them has only added and improved my own experiences. Very alluring, very tantalizing, yet very tasteful and passionate. Absolutely love this video!
Saroyan Presents How to Play Finger Cymbals
Another one of my favorites, though there isn't much zil instruction on mainstream videos! You will learn a lot from this video. Mesmera does a terrific job explaining rhythms, counts, and adding it to your music. A must have for every dancer!
Art of Exotic Dancing
It's been a LONG time since I've seen this video! But I loved it because it really helps you break out of your shell. I used this video to help me with my Sensual Release classes at Naturally Women Fitness Centers.
Rania series
Though I only briefly watched these videos, I wasn't very impressed with them. I'm not very fond of narrated videos, because it feels really disconnecting to the viewer. It's okay on a fitness aspect, but they really didn't pull my attention. These may be great for beginners/intermediate, but I wouldn't recommend them for an advanced dancer.
Belly Dance Reloaded (IAMED)
Of course, you have to watch this video! I perform with Black Opal Dance Company in this video of various talented artists. Note the cool unintended veil switch between Jeela and Ava! Pretty cool, huh? Next time, we will have to choreograph it into the piece!
